  • Popsquire Beat: This Week In Pop Culture And Law

The Popsquire Beat presents this week’s most entertaining collisions between pop culture and law.  Enjoy!

    1.  A fashion designer asks a court to slap Courtney Love’s Celebrity Skin.

In a lawsuit filed yesterday, Dawn Simorangkir is suing Love for libel and invasion of privacy, among other claims.  The plaintiff says that Love got mad after she sent a bill for designing some clothes, trashed her online and threatened her life.  Among other things, Love allegedly called the plaintiff a cocaine dealer, a thief, an embezzler, a racist and a homophobe on the web.  In short, the plaintiff says Courtney Love is an a-Hole!

    2. Jeremy Piven’s arbitration moves full stream ahead.

Actors’ Equity and the producers of Speed-the-Plow announced this week that an arbitration hearing will take place June 8 and 9 to decide whether Jeremy Piven breached his contract when he quit the play after approximately two months of performances.  Piven claims mercury poisoning prevented him from working any longer, but producers say this excuse is fishy, to say the least.  Either way, mercury will move from retrograde to arbitration this summer!

    3.  And, Top Chef’s Padma Lakshmi’s desire for pork(ing) clearly breaks Muslim and Jewish laws in this mouth-watering Hardee’s commercial.

Have a great weekend.  Remember, please don’t drink and drive!
