Perez Hilton: Court Of Law vs. Public Opinion
Perez Hilton says: “I look forward to standing up for my rights in a Toronto courtroom shortly, as I fully intend to seek every lawful remedy against the man that attacked me.”

He’s obviously referring to the infamous incident that occurred after Toronto’s MuchMusic Video Awards. From a legal perspective, Perez is right. If someone hit him, then that person is guilty of battery and, as a result, may face criminal penalties and civil damages. Case closed.
But, that’s only the legal case. He’s also facing the court of public opinion, which often differs from a court of law and carries larger consequences. So, let’s take a look at two big issues looming large over this incident.
First, Perez consistently asserts that violence is never the answer. He’s right, but many people view his scathing blog posts as violent attacks and, as a result, believe he deserved what he got. If Perez is truly surprised by this response, then he lacks introspection.
He has to understand that while no one previously hit him, many people have wanted to do so. Moreover, his physical injuries clearly were minimal, which may explain some support for the violence.
Second, Perez won’t back down from his use of a gay slur. In his most recent statement, he continues to justify it by saying “however misguided it may have been,” he just wanted “to stand up” for himself against Will.I.Am.
As someone who fights for equal rights, he should understand why his use of the slur seems hypocritical and was unacceptable and offensive to many people. He should own up to it and apologize.
If Perez accepts some responsibility, the court of public opinion might rule in his favor.
PS: He should have followed the advice on his pants when he got dressed.

PEREZ HILTON DESERVED TO GET PUNCHED! and for the record, it wasn’t even all that bad, i’ve seen so much worse. my 4 yr old nephew could have punched him and he’d be crying like a little baby. I don’t think the fact that Perez is a bitch on his website is turning people against him as much as the fact he posted a f***ing *tweet* – falsely accusing will.i.am – instead of calling the goddamn police.
