During a press conference today, Allred announced that she and “A Minor Consideration,” a child advocacy group, filed a lawsuit alleging that Suleman may be violating California’s child labor laws.  The petition, which was filed in Orange County Superior Court, seeks to appoint a guardian over the babies’ estate and to protect their financial interests.

California law has numerous restrictions that pertain to minors in the entertainment industry.  Among other things, infants ages 15 days to six months are prohibited from working more than 20 minutes in a day and must not be exposed to “light exceeding 100 foot-candles for more than 30 seconds at a time.”  In addition, courts often require parents to set aside 15% of the minor’s gross earnings until the kid turns 18.
