Rowe’s Lawyer: No Deal, No Money…Not Ever?

In an open letter (click here) to the NY Post, Debbie Rowe’s attorney demands a retraction of the story that Rowe accepted $4 million to give up parental rights to Michael Jackson’s kids and offers several siginicant denials.

“There has been no agreement reached between Ms. Rowe and the Jacksons.”
He doesn’t deny that the parties are working out an agreement. When / if they agree, the court still must be involved in the decision about the future of the kids. The next hearing on the guardianship of the kids is set for Monday.
“Ms. Rowe has not and will not ‘giv[e] up her parental rights.’”
“No determination has been reached concerning custody or visitation.”
As Popsquire explained earlier, there is a distinction between parental rights and guardianship rights. The immediate question is whether Rowe will stand in the way of Katherine Jackson’s bid for guardianship, which is the subject of Monday’s court hearing.
Even if she does not pursue guardianship, she still may have legal rights to visitation and other future involvement in the kids’ lives.
“Ms. Rowe has not accepted — and will not accept — any additional financial consideration beyond the spousal support she and Michael Jackson personally agreed to several years ago.”
This is huge and wonderful. Despite rampant speculation that Rowe basically is selling off the two eldest kids, it’s nice to finally see her deny the rumors. Having said that, there’s still some room for her to make some money.
If she and MJ “personally agreed” to spousal support, then maybe this means she is seeking compensation outside of prior divorce documents. This definitely seems open to interpretation.
One big question remains: why does Rowe seem so hesitant to embrace her kids?
