Michael Jackson’s Will: Diana Ross In Line For Kids
Michael Jackson’s legal drama is turning everyone upside down.
Although Katherine Jackson filed a probate petition on Monday alleging that Michael did not have a will, lawyers filed a copy of a 2002 will in court today. If this is the most updated version of the will and no one contests it, then it may serve as the instrument that controls the future of Michael’s estate and kids.
It’s relatively straight forward. Michael nominated his mother, Katherine, as guardian of his children. If she was not able to care for the kids, then he wanted Diana Ross to care for them. (Yes, you can sing Dirty Diana now.)
The money — Michael’s net worth may be worth more than $200 million, despite reports of enormous debt — will go in the private Michael Jackson Family Trust. According to the will, Michael’s wealth “consists of non-cash, non-liquid assets, including primarily an interest in a catalog of music royalty rights which is currently being administered by Sony-ATV, and interests in various entities.”
Not surprisingly, Debbie Rowe gets nothing. In fact, the will specifically states: “I have intentionally omitted to provide for my former wife.”
Amid the madness, this may be good. We’ve gone from no will — which would be insane for someone with his wealth — to the existence of a will and a trust. Despite a lot of concern to the contrary, Michael actually may have taken the right steps to provide for his family and loved ones. The next court hearing in this case is scheduled for Monday.
PS: Popsquire’s first kiss was Diana Ross. Seriously. During a mid-1980s concert in Tucson, Arizona, Diana called all kids on stage to dance with her. Popsquire was among those kids and, after dancing with her, received of a big kiss from Miss Ross…on the lips!
