LA Mayor: City Will Pay For Jackson Memorial
Now that Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is back, he says the city’s website asking for donations to cover the Michael Jackson memorial is whack.
Villaraigosa was on vacation in South Africa during the memorial and, in his absence, his staff set up a website asking LA residents to donate money to help pay for the spectacle. Upon his return, Villaraigosa put a stop to this initiative, calling it “ridiculous.”
He says the city is responsible for protecting public safety and should pick up the $1.4 million tab for police overtime and other services from the event last week at Staples Center.
Did you donate any money? If so, let Popsquire know if it’s returned!
