He was placed on probation last year for assaulting his girlfriend and was supposed to be in court this week to address alleged violations of probation. What will he do, baby, without court? Rapper 50 Cent was In Da Court this week asking a New York judge to grant him visitation with his son, Marquise. After passing a drug test, 50 convinced the judge to give him unrestricted visitation for a week in August. Is Popsquire the only one wondering if the judge asked him 21 Questions?!?

And, Britney Spears and Kevin Federline settled their custody battle today, with Britney getting more visitation rights and K-Fed retaining physical and legal custody. This means there will be no trial in August. And, sadly, this means that Popsquire won’t be able to use this line…”At trial today, when the judge asked Britney Spears to state her name for the record and swear in, Britney replied, ‘It’s Britney, bitch!‘”

Because you are obsessed with Popsquire, you know that Kim Kardashian’s younger sister, Khloe, had until today to turn herself in to serve a 30-day sentence in Los Angeles County jail for violating probation following a DUI arrest. And…she is in custody now!

How much time will she actually serve?

Remember, Nicole Richie was sentenced to four days and served only 82 minutes. Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to two days and served only 84 minutes. Unless county jail suddenly has become less crowded, it’s unlikely she will serve anything close to her 30 days.

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline have settled their family law dispute! According to E! Online, K-Fed gets sole legal and physical custody of their sons, while Britney will have visitation rights.

Popsquire’s Pop Quiz: What is the difference between “legal” and “physical” custody?

Legal custody refers to the ability to make major decisions — e.g., medical, educational, religious — about the course of the children’s lives. Physical custody simply refers to the parent with whom the kids primarily live.

Popsquire’s perspective…

Although the parties are awaiting court approval, there shouldn’t be a problem. All courts, especially family law courts, encourage parties to negotiate and settle. Avoiding an emotional, high profile trial is likely a good idea for Britney Spears, especially given her recent history.

Remember, however, that this arrangement does not have to stay in place forever. The parties can mutually agree to a new deal or go back to court to modify the arrangement at any time.

In an ongoing custody battle with his baby mama, rapper 50 Cent received some help from a Long Island court today.

According to TMZ, after 50 passed a drug test, the judge granted him an unrestricted visit from August 3-12 with his son, Marquise. The next hearing is scheduled for September 15.

Popsquire’s perspective…

Because many parents can be unreasonable, family law judges often must oversee ongoing disputes throughout a child’s lifetime. In most cases, judges require parents to work out a strict schedule that sets forth specific dates and times when visitation will occur.

Because you are a faithful Popsquire follower, you know that Josh Brolin was arrested last weekend in Louisiana for allegedly obstructing police officers’ attempts to break up a bar fight.

Popsquire brings you new developments as follows…

1. A witness now says that a cell phone recorded part of the incident, which involved both Brolin and his W co-star, Jeffrey Wright, as well as five crew members, a dozen police officers, a police dog and a crowd of onlookers.
2. The witness, whose name is not being released, claims that a racial slur was aimed at Wright, who is black.
3. The actors’ attorneys are rumored to have the cell phone footage.
4. According to the police reports, a taser was used on Wright and he and Brolin were hit with pepper spray when they wouldn’t quit holding onto each other.

It’s good to know that while cell phones should not be used while driving, they might be very helpful in crime fighting and civil rights. Popsquire will keep you posted!

Andy Dick was arrested early this morning in Murrieta, Calif., on drug and sexual battery charges after he allegedly pulled down a 17-year-old girl’s tank top in a bar parking lot.

According to the police statement, Dick: (1) walked up to the girl; (2) grabbed her tank top and bra; and (3) pulled them down, exposing her breasts.  Not surprisingly, the cops also found pot and Xanax in his pockets.

He was booked at 4:30 a.m. — and later released on $5,000 bail — for felony possession of narcotics, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and misdemeanor sexual battery.

Representing both nostalgia and a pop culture/law collision, Katie Holmes — aka Joey Potter — will be returning to tv this fall with an appearance on ABC’s legal drama, Eli Stone, according to EW.

This Britney Spears/How I Met Your Mother strategy may provide a ratings boost to the show, and it will mark a reunion between Katie and her former Dawson’s boss and Eli Stone executive producer, Greg Berlanti.

Popsquire congratulates Lindsay Lohan!

Yesterday, a Beverly Hills judge confirmed that Lindsay — unlike Khloe Kardashian and Brian Bonsall — is satisfying her probation requirements. So far, she has completed her required visit to a morgue and community service.

Next steps: (1) Lindsay must complete an alcohol education class; and (2) update the court by January 2009.

In celebration of Lindsay’s progress, Popsquire dedicates the NKOTB hit, “Step By Step,” to her. Enjoy!

Brian Bonsall — who played the youngest sibling during the later years of Family Ties — is due in court today for alleged probation violations.

He was placed on probation last year for assaulting his girlfriend and now is accused of violating the conditions of his probation by failing to pay for domestic-violence classes, missing daily breathalyzer tests and submitting a positive breath test.

The probation officer is expected to recommend: (1) a 60-day term of work release, which allows inmates to leave the Boulder County Jail for work every day and requires them to return at night; (2) a “strict sobriety schedule,” including attendance at four AA meetings per week; and (3) pay for his violence classes.

Popsquire’s perspective…

Violating probation is a easy way to land yourself in jail!  Judges often are inclined to grant probation for certain offenses, but you expect jail time if you can’t stay out of trouble while on probation.

As if L.C.’s guest house wasn’t the center of enough drama on The Hills, Access Hollywood is reporting that City of Los Angeles’ Department of Building and Safety is investigating whether Audrina’s on-and-off-again humble guest house on L.C.’s property is an illegal residence.

According to the Multiple Listing Service, the house is not permitted for a second dwelling. The property is zoned as LAR1, which means a Single Family residence with one dwelling. In short, L.C.’s mans may need to be sans guest house!
