Foreign Marriage Mania
Popsquire was the first to raise the issue about whether Eddie Murphy’s Bora Bora wedding will be legally recognized in the United States. Generally, so long as a couple adheres to the marriage laws of the foreign country, the United States will recognize the union.
Let’s see how a few other foreign-married celebs covered they legal booties…
Eva Longoria and Tony Parker were married in a civil ceremony at Paris’s city hall on July 6, 2007. This came before the big church wedding because French law requires a civil ceremony.
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were married on November 18, 2006 outside of Rome, Italy. Because Scientology weddings are not legally recognized in Italy, the couple made their union official in Los Angeles before heading to Italia.
Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley were married in the Dominican Republic on May 26, 1994. Click aqui to see the requirements to obtain a valid marriage in the DR.
In honor of legal marriage, take a look — if you dare — at this historical post-nuptial kiss.
