  • Nicole Richie Takes It Easy

    September 11th, 2008

Nicole Richie is living the simple life!

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge determined yesterday that Nicolein compliance” with the terms of her probation stemming from her 2006 DUI, according to E! News.  Because you are a faithful Popsquire follower, you likely remember that Nicole served 82 minutes in jail and was placed on three years’ probation after being caught driving the wrong way — and under the influence — on an L.A. freeway.

Her next court date is on calendar for February 20, 2009.  Popsquire is hopeful that Nicole will continue to do well and Take It Easy, Like Sunday Morning!

Kiefer Kicked It In Jail Longer Because…

    January 22nd, 2008

Popsquire’s peeps have been asking why Kiefer Sutherland served so much more time than Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Nicole Richie, as described here

    Popsquire has the answers…

Kiefer did his time in the Glendale city jail, as opposed to the Lynwood county jail where the starletts all did their time.  City jail generally is considered much more comfortable than county jail.  There are two catches, however: (1) you have to pay a daily fee to serve there; and (2) you have to serve the entire sentence.

In county jail, non-violent offenders often serve a fraction of their full sentence due to overcrowding.  As a result, many people (including celebs) elect county jail.  Although there are no guarantees, it typically results in a shorter jail term…unless you are Paris Hilton, of course!

    Celeb Moms Have Rights, Too!

    January 11th, 2008

Popsquire is happy to report that four celebs gave birth today — Christina Aguilera, Nicole Richie, Courtney Thorne Smith, and David Alan Grier’s wife.  Congrats to all!

Not that any of these people likely have to worry about the cost of insurance or hospital stays, but Popsquire still likes to remind people of their rights and, of course, the constant collision between pop culture and law

The Newborns’ and Mothers’ Health Protection Act of 1996 (NMHPA) was enacted on September 26, 1996 to provide protections for mothers and their newborns with regard to hospital lengths of stay following childbirth.

NMHPA generally requires certain group health plans to provide a new mother with no less than 48 hours of hospital stay following a vaginal delivery or no less than 96 hours following a delivery by cesarean section.

    Nicole Richie Has Newborn News

    January 11th, 2008

According to People, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden welcomed a baby girl into the world today, naming her Harlow Winter Kate Madden.  Four names for four seasons?

    Popsquire’s perspective…

Popsquire is surprised to see that Nicole’s last name is nowhere to found in the baby’s name, particularly because Nicole and Joel are not married

When a baby is born out of wedlock, it is advisable to have the baby daddy sign that birth certificate to provide evidence of paternity.  Of course, Nicole has plenty of TV footage where Joel admits to being the father.  That might work, too.

In honor of Harlow’s journey into this world, Popsquire dedicates this Guns ‘n’ Roses classic to her.
