So Much For No More Drama…

Mary J. Bilge may not be fine, fine, fine!
Mary J. is facing a $2 million federal court lawsuit alleging that music on her most recent No. 1 album, “Growing Pains,” was stolen. According to the NY Daily News, the suit alleges that Producer Theron (NEEF-U) Feemster wrote the music for the song “Work That,” but he didn’t have the rights to distribute it to Mary J. or her label because he was under contract with another company, Dream Family.
Popsquire’s perspective…
Typically, these lawsuits do not come as a surprise to the artist or label. The plaintiff’s attorney generally sends at least a few letters or attempts to have a few telephone conversations about the claims. Then, the parties might exchange information to determine whether there is any merit to the claim. At the same time, the parties might discuss a financial settlement to avoid litigation. If these steps fail, then lawsuits are filed and drama begins!
