O.J. and J.S. Sitting In A Tree

January 11, 2008

Popsquire never thought he’d ask this question…What do O.J. Simpson and Jessica Sierra have in common?  Judges are telling both of them to SHUT UP.

As Popsquire described in this recent post, a Florida Judge scolded Jessica Sierra for talking to the press, telling her: “You are not a celebrity.  You are a drug addict.”

Now, as described in this motion, O.J. was taken into police custody today for allegedly attempting to dissuade a co-defendant from testifying and cooperating with law enforcement.

If true, this means that O.J. may be in violation of his bail agreement, which specifically forbids him from having direct or indirect contact with any victims, witnesses or co-defendants involved in his Nevada criminal case.

The hearing on the O.J. motion is scheduled for January 18, 2008.  Popsquire will be peeping out the situation and keeping you informed.  Stay tuned!

Judge to Jessica Sierra: “You Are Not A Celebrity!”

January 10, 2008

Popsquire hereby awards Florida Judge Daniel Perry the award for best quote of 2008 (so far).  In open court, Judge Perry said to Jessica Sierra, “You are not a celebrity.  You are a drug addict.”  Watch for yourselves on CelebTV

Thank you, Judge.  Popsquire has been saying for weeks that this former Americal Idol contestant should not be part of our pop culture discourse.  Now that a judge has made an official ruling, I sincerely hope that we can all move on.

That is, of course, unless less VH1’s Celebrity Rehab is as good as it looks.  Popsquire will be watching…

Welcoming Jessica Sierra…

January 8, 2008

Popsquire is giving into peer pressure.  Although I don’t really believe Jessica Sierra is part of pop culture, TMZ continues to follow her story.  And, truthfully, it continues to present collisions between law and (reluctantly) pop culture.  So, Popsquire must fulfill his duty!

TMZ is now reporting that Jessica was rushed to the hospital on New Year’s Eve due to a pregnancy scare.  Thankfully, TMZ reports that she and baby are ok.  Popsquire trusts that her Constitutional rights are ok as well…

According to the ACLU, imprisoned pregnant women retain several Constitutional rights.  Among them are the right to prenatal care and transportation to a hospital, potentially for free

In light of Jessica’s entry to the collision between pop culture and law, Popsquire dedicates this Guns ‘N’ Roses classic to her…
