    Gossip Girl vs. Death?

    November 7th, 2008

Hello Popsquire followers…the angel of death was spotted on the set of Gossip Girl, and one of the cast members will die soon.  Will it be murder?  Suicide?  Or accident?  Either way, it certainly will present a collision between pop culture and law.

Popsquire will keep you posted. xoxo.

    Hello Jail Baby…

    September 24th, 2008

Leighton Meester is a literal pop culture/law collision!

US Weekly reveals that the Gossip Girl star was born behind bars.  Her mom Connie was pregnant with Leighton when she entered federal prison in Texas at age 29 and gave birth while she was just beginning her sentence for her involvement with a drug ring that smuggled 1,200-pound shipments of marijuana into the US from Jamaica. Her father, Doug, also served time for being part of the smuggling operation.

Don’t worry, though.  Everyone is good now.  Doug works in construction, and Connie is a screenwriter.  Leighton says that her mother is “always there for me no matter what…I swear, that woman knows everything.”

    Hello Fall Season…

    July 23rd, 2008

Apparently, every parent’s worst nightmare is Popsquire’s dream come true!

The CW is launching its latest print campaign for the fall season of Gossip Girl. Replacing last year’s “OMFG” campaign is the above poster, which quotes commentary from the Boston Herald. Other ads will include headlines like “A Nasty Piece of Work” and “Mind-Blowingly Inappropriate,” the latter a quote from the Parents Television Council.

    Brilliant!

TV Touched By The Law: Gossip Girl, Cinco de Mayo

    May 6th, 2008

    Popsquire here.

Last night’s Gossip Girl gave us many gifts, i.e., collisions between pop culture and law. In case you missed the shocking episode, here’s what you need to know:

    1. Gossip Girl outs Jenny’s new boyfriend, who was seen kissing Serena’s brother.
    2. Georgina sends S a copy of a sex tape that was filmed while S was under the influence of the date rape drug G gave her during last week’s episode.
    3. In the final scene, S tells Blair that she “killed someone.”

    Popsquire’s perspective…

I don’t even know where to start, but here goes: (a) publishing a statement that someone is gay is considered defamation in many states; (b) just ask R. Kelly about the legalities involved in filming sex with under age girls; and (c) murder?!?

    OMFG.
