    Britney Spears can’t even mourn the loss of Ed McMahon without creating a pop culture / law collision.

    Ed gave Brit her start on Star Search (watch the video above), so she tweeted this message today:

    I am deeply saddened by today’s news about Ed McMahon. He is responsible for giving so many artists their first shot including myself.

    He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed.

    Around the same time that Brit was tweeting, 26-year-old Miranda Tozier-Robbins pleaded not guilty in a Los Angeles court to trespassing Brit’s Calabasas home back in April.  Poor Brit.  One day, she may be free of pop culture / law collisions.  Well, maybe not, but she can dream.

    Ed McMahon Dies, Age 86

    June 23rd, 2009

    After numerous fighting numerous health and legal battles, Ed McMahon passed away at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in California this morning.  Popsquire has fond memories of Ed as Johnny Carson’s sidekick and the host of Star Search.

    It was Ed’s work with the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes, however, that left a young Popsquire hoping that Ed would change his life over night.  Watch in memorium…
