  • Alcohol May Have Played Role In Death Of American Idol Contestant Alexis Cohen

    July 27th, 2009

While American Idol judges didn’t send Alexis to Hollywood, a New Jersey jury may have the chance to send her alleged killer to jail for a long time.

23-year-old Daniel Bark appeared in court this afternoon to face a charge of leaving the scene of the fatal car accident that killed Alexis.  Not surprisingly, alcohol may have played a role, and prosecutors also are expected to charge him with aggravated manslaughter, death by auto and eluding police.

Unfortunately, Bark wouldn’t be the first person to get into an accident while driving under the influence of alcohol.

Garrison was granted early release for good behavior after serving about half of his 40 month sentence.  He is expected to report to a rehab center, which may shorten his probation period.  Let’s hope he keeps up the good behavior.  If so, Popsquire is all for comebacks and rehabilitation!

    Lindsay Lohan Arrest Warrant Rescinded

    March 16th, 2009

Lindsay Lohan’s lawyer comes to the rescue!

    Lindsay Lohan

After a weekend of speculation surrounding her arrest warrant, Lindsay is off the hook. Her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, made a quick appearance in court this morning to show that Lindsay was in compliance with her probation terms — namely, a requirement to attend alcohol education classes — and the judge rescinded the arrest warrant.  This is good news for Lindsay, because judges get very upset with people break probation terms.

The People vs. Dr. Jan Adams

    January 8th, 2009

This one is a collision among pop culture, law, and medicine…

Dr. Jan Adams, the plastic surgeon who operated on Kanye West’s mother the day before she died, has been sentenced to one year in jail for a June 2008 DUI charge.  Yes, this seems like an unusually lengthy sentence, but it’s likely because this charge violated probation.  Judges always get angry when people violate probation!

    The People vs. Jason Alexander

    December 4th, 2008

Jason Alexander doesn’t see dead people…

Jason, who was married to Britney Spears for 55 hours in 2004, was sentenced to jail time after failing to complete a court ordered alcohol rehabilitation program for a 2006 DUI arrest.  According to TMZ, he failed to attend court-ordered morgue appointments and will be locked up until December 9.

Like Popsquire always says, courts don’t like it when people disobey their orders or violate probation.  It’s a guaranteed ticket to jail!

    The People vs. Heather Locklear

    November 17th, 2008

Heather Locklear was formally charged today with a misdemeanor DUI in connection with her September arrest.  According to TMZ, the Santa Barbara DA’s office states that although there was no alcohol or illegal drugs in her system, prescription drugs are to blame.

Heather likely can expect a possible punishment that looks like this: (1) up to three years of probation; (2) DUI classes; (3) driver’s license suspension; (4) monetary fines; and (5) mandatory attendance at a morgue or MADD class.

    Heather Locklear’s Police Report

    October 2nd, 2008

The Heather Locklear police report has surfaced and, like a good lawyer, Popsquire is condensing the information into these highlights:

    1. The so-called concerned citizen observed Heather in a Montecito parking lot “driving forwards and backwards over a pair of sunglasses and revving her engine.”
    2. The citizen became concerned when Heather exited her vehicle and stumbled into the traffic lane, which prompted her to call 911.
    3. When the police showed up, they found Heather “seated alone in the driver’s seat of her vehicle which was obstructing the traffic lane.”
    4. Police arrested her “for suspicion of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance.”
    5. Heather “was transported to the Santa Barbara CHP office, where she was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert, who concluded Ms. Locklear was under the influence of a controlled substance, and could not safely operate a motor vehicle.”

    Heather L*u*cklear…

    September 30th, 2008

It looks like it may be Heather Locklear’s lucky day!

Despite being arrested over the weekend for alleged drunk driving, TMZ has uncovered evidence indicating that Heather may have been set up.  Before you read the article below, Popsquire wants to take a minute to say he told you so — click here to read Popsquire’s prior post in which he predicted something fishy was going on…

    Shia LaBeouf’s Crash Cohorts Charged

    September 30th, 2008

Prosecutors are keeping an Eagle Eye on Shia LaBeouf’s July car crash!

This time, the focus is on the two people who hit Shia’s pickup truck.  Herbert Simon and Kimberly Bent are now being charged with misdemeanors for allegedly giving police false information. According to the DA spokeswoman Jane Robison, Bent initially told police that she was the one behind the wheel at the time of the high profile crash, but officials believe that Simon was actually the one driving.

Coming up next…the DMV’s decision about Shia’s alleged failure to submit to a blood alcohol test.  If he refused, his driver’s license likely will be suspended for a year.  On the other hand, if his lawyer can show that the police did not follow proper procedures, then Shia might be La Let Go!

    Popsquire will keep you posted…

    Amanda Woodward’s Wild Driving?

    September 29th, 2008

Heather Locklear was locked up over the weekend…

A “concerned citizen” called authorities on Saturday after allegedly seeing Heather drive “erratically” in a Montecito parking lot.  Police, who arrived after Heather pulled over on her own accord, originally suspected alcohol, but tests came back negative.  Since then, some reports have speculated that she was under the influence of prescription medication, but drug test results have not been released.

    Popsquire’s perspective…

This seems weird.  Since when do “concerned citizens” call the police about alleged drunk drivers in a parking lot?  Popsquire worries that someone set up Heather for a photo op!

Having said that, there may not be sufficient evidence to prosecute anyway, given that the police did not witness any of Heather’s so-called erratic driving.  Plus, if Heather pulled over and stopped driving because she realized she was not in any condition to drive, then it may be a case of no harm, no foul.  Expect either a plea for a lesser offense or no charge at all.

    Popsquire Is MADD

    September 18th, 2008

With another day comes more news of a celebrity DUI.  At least today’s news is about punishment!

Thomas Jane, who is married to Patricia Arquette and was arrested on suspicion of DUI in early April, pleaded no contest to DUI yesterday in Kern County, CA.  According to TMZ, he was sentenced to a year of probation, $1,700 in fines and alcohol abuse classes.

Will celebs ever learn?!?  Below is a reminder that many still have not…

    Last week…

    1. Eric Carmen, singer of the 80’s tune “Hungry Eyes,” was arrested in Ohio for suspicion of drunk driving.

    July…

    1. Shia LaBeouf was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
    2. Scott Michael Foster, star of ABC Family’s “Greek,” was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

    June…

    1. Taylor Dane was sentenced to 24 months’ probation and ordered to pay a fine in exchange for entering a no contest plea to the lesser charge of reckless driving after being arrested for suspicion of DUI in March.

    May…

    1. Scott Weiland served jail time for his second DUI offense and still is required to complete an 18-month alcohol program, pay nearly $2,000 in fines, and participate in a four-year probation period.
