This may not qualify as a collision between pop culture and law, but Popsquire attended this dog surfing competition over the weekend and had to share the fun.

Although this may not technically be a pop culture/law collision, Popsquire figured you’d still love this story…
A german shepherd named Buddy called 911 when his owner experienced a seizure over the weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona. Joe Stalnaker adopted Buddy when he was eight weeks old and trained him to get the phone if he began to have seizure symptoms.
Buddy, who is now 18 months old, is trained to press a programmed button until a 911 operator is on the line and has done so at least three times in recent months, saving his owner’s life. Click here to learn more about Paws With A Cause, the organization from which Joe adopted Buddy and trains assistance dogs nationwide for people with disabilities.

Popsquire rarely subscribes to Schadenfreude, except when it applies to Michael Vick!
The desire to watch Vick’s fall is only one reason to watch Animal Witness: The Michael Vick Case, airing on Animal Planet Sunday night at 10pm. In an intense, heart wrenching hour, the show not only details the investigative trail to exposing Vick’s criminal behavior, but it also explores the rehabilitation of the abused pit bulls. Featuring the volunteers who rescued and rehabilitated the dogs recovered from Vick’s home, Animal Witness shows us that these dogs received so much love that many now live as pets and even work as therapy dogs.
Below is a picture of Popsquire’s personal therapy dog, Rudy The Puggle. We both will be watching on Sunday night. You should, too!

Michael Vick is a _____!
Popsquire invites you to fill in the blank however you’d like to describe the convicted animal abuser. Vick, who currently is serving a 23-month jail sentence, also continues to entertain us with details of his demise. He filed for bankruptcy last month, and details about his debt are now available.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Vick has assets valuing more than $10 million, but he also has $19 million in liabilities. Most amusing is the fact that Vick currently makes 12 cents an hour for prison work. Popsquire, of course, wouldn’t pay him a dime!

Although it’s hard to admit, this In Touch Weekly picture of Perez Hilton and his goldendoodle, Teddy, is quite good.

Don’t ya think they should have included Popsquire and Rudy The Puggle, too?!?

This was the Week Of The Dog in the world of pop culture/law collisions!
Early this week, the Orange County D.A.’s office threw Shante Broadus – Snoop Dogg’s wife – a bone when it decided not to move forward with a June DUI case against her. The D.A.’s office now says it doesn’t have enough evidence “to prove her driving was impaired” by marijuana. Apparently, the D.A. had never met Snoop Dogg!
Next, Michael Vick, who is currently serving a 23-month jail sentence for animal abuse, filed for bankruptcy this week. According to the court documents, he is $10-$50 million in debt. In short, he is now both morally and financially bankrupt!
And, finally, Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook reached a settlement this week in their widely publicized divorce trial. Peter, the now infamous dog, will get $2.1 million, while Christie gets custody of the kids and her boat, “Sweet Freedom.” Um…isn’t that what Peter thought he had during their marriage?!?

Karma has a name…it’s called bankruptcy court!
Michael Vick, an admitted animal abuser, is now both morally and financially bankrupt. According to these court documents, he is between $10-$50 million in debt! Popsquire hopes that by the time his July 2009 release date comes, he finds himself in even more financial troubles.
There is no sympathy for dog abusers in the Popsquire household.

Popsquire is sad for Tori Spelling. The tv star — whose estrangement from her family is no secret — is mourning the loss of Mimi LaRue, her 11-year-old pug who passed away yesterday.
“I’m devastated,” Tori tells People, revealing that Mimi had suffered from medical problems relating to her hips and neck for years. “I’m convinced she waited around to make sure I had the daughter I always dreamt about before she left us.”
As a reminder that dogs can present collisions between pop culture and law, enjoy these prior Popsquire posts: (1) Popsquire on Puppy Mills; (2) Oprah And Dogs; and (3) Janice Dickinson Missing Puppy.

Because you are a faithful Popsquire follower, you may remember that Popsquire broke the (urgent) story last week that Janice Dickinson lost her eight-week-old puppy.
Good news — TMZ captured this reunion on camera yesterday.
Did she pay the reward? How much was it?!?

Popsquire just photographed this sign posted at the controversial Pets of Bel Air pet store.
Let’s postpone grammar/spelling comments and help Janice find her puppy! Click here to contact the store.

And, let’s hope that she’s the only cougar in the neighborhood. Poor puppy!

In this Perez post, Ashley Tisdale carries her fluggy dog, Maui, on the streets of West Hollywood. Doggone it, Popsquire doesn’t see a leash. Do you?
Many cities require dogs to remain on leash in public. In Los Angeles, for example, violators may be fined anywhere from $25 to $65 for breaking LA’s Municipal Code.
Popsquire dedicates this En Vogue classic to Ashley and anyone else who takes their pet in public….

Popsquire loves dogs, but he also loves rules…
In this Perez post, Rihanna carries her snuggly dog, DJ, as they leave Barney’s in Beverly Hills over the weekend. Popsquire trusts that the leash is simply hidden by the photog’s angle, but it’s important to remind everyone that many cities require dogs to remain on leash in public.
In Los Angeles, for example, violators may be fined anywhere from $25 to $65 for breaking LA’s Municipal Code.
That’s ruff!
