Following reports that Christian Bale might have to admit guilt to walk away from his mother’s assault allegations, prosecutors at England’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS - not CHPS!) have determined that there is “insufficient evidence to afford a realistic prospect of conviction, and accordingly the police have been advised that no further action should be taken against Mr. Bale.” According to People, Bale is expected to receive a “caution.”

Without any statement from Bale or acknowledgment that he may have admitted guilt, the resolution of this batty incident remains clouded in as much mystery as the incident itself. For the sake of Bale and his family, let’s hope there is no sequel!

The Dark Knight may have a dilemma.

According to the Sun, a British tabloid, prosecutors recommended to police that Christian Bale be “cautioned” rather than charged over the assault allegations lodged by Bale’s mother and sister during the blockbuster’s Brithish premiere last month “Bale will have to admit guilt to get a caution when he answers bail next month,” the newspaper reports. “Cops can still charge him if he refuses.”

Given that Bale denied the allegations, called this situation “deeply personal,” and refused to comment further, this (if true) presents quite a pickle. On the one hand, he can admit guilt and escape the situation without any serious legal consequences. On the other hand, he would be admitting to assaulting his mother!

It seems like everything is broken in Morgan Freeman’s life these days.

Unlike his arm, elbow, and car, however, it looks like Freeman’s marriage may be irreparable. His business partner and lawyer, Bill Luckett, confirms that Freeman and his wife of 24 years are getting a divorce. Luckett told the Memphis Commercial-Appeal newspaper that the divorce action between Freeman and Myrna Colley-Lee is pending as the Dark Knight actor remains in the hospital after his recent one-car crash.

Christian Bale was arrested after yesterday’s London premiere of The Dark Knight for an alleged assault on his mother and sister Sunday night. He voluntarily turned himself in, was questioned, and has been released. Thus far, Bale has not issued any formal response to the charges.

UPDATE (10:20 a.m. PST): According to TMZ, the alleged assault may have been verbal and not physical. This seems to make sense. If there had been physical violence or any injuries resulting in a hospital visit, the police may have arrested Bale regardless of his big movie premiere. More to come, for sure…

UPDATE: (11:00 a.m. PST): Bale has released this statement…

“Christian Bale attended a London Police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister. Mr Bale who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the Police.

At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr Bale.”

UPDATE (3:30 p.m. PST): TMZ sources say that Bale may have pushed his mom out of the way during the altercation, but that she was not hurt and did not fall down. Further, it’s unclear whether the contact was a “push” or a “brush.”
