  • Year In Review: Britney Timeline

2007 provided us with a huge collision between pop culture and law in the form of one celeb in particular, Britney Spears

Like a good lawyer, Popsquire has prepared a brief timeline of Britney events for leisure weekend reading (and tranferring to note cards if you so desire).  FYI, this timeline is not exhaustive…that would be, um, exhausting.

Feb. 14-15: Britney checks in and out of Antigua rehab within a 24-hour period.

Feb. 16: Britney shaves her head BALD.  As if the image were not already etched in your memory, check it out here.

Feb. 20-21: Britney checks in and out of Malibu rehab.

Feb. 21: Britney attacks photographer’s car with umbrella.

Feb. 22-March 21: Britney stays in Malibu rehab.

May 2: Britney performs at House of Blues San Diego, launching a brief tour showcasing 10-15 minute performances in various cities.

July 6: Britney apologizes for attacking photographer’s car with umbrella.

July 30: Britney’s divorce from K-Fed becomes final.

Aug. 6: Britney, who does not have a valid CA driver’s license, is involved in a minor fender bender with a parked car and leaves the scene.

Sept. 9: Britney performs at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Sept. 18: Britney is ordered by judge to submit to random drug tests; the judge concluded that she had engaged in “habitual, frequent, and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol.”  She also must attend parent counseling classes

Oct. 1: Britney is ordered by judge to give up custody of her kids, at least temporarily, for failure to comply with court orders.

Oct. 15: Britney turns herself in to be booked on charges arising out of the Aug. 6 fender bender.

Oct.17: Britney’s visitation rights are suspended by court commissioner until she complies with court orders, including answering phone calls from court-appointed monitor.

Oct. 20: Britney regains rights to visitation with her children and must be accompanied by court-ordered monitor.

Oct. 25: Britney’s hit-and-run misdemeanor charge related to Aug. 6 incident is dismissed, and she pleads guilty to driving without valid CA driver’s license.

Oct. 29: Britney’s former manager, Johnny Wright, sues for alleged unpaid commission in excess of $15,000.

Nov. 9: Britney is accused of failing to respond to eight out of 14 drug test requests.  As part of the Sept. 19 order, Britney must submit to twice-weekly drug tests and is required of providing a urine sample within six hours of being called.

Nov. 13: Britney’s album, Blackout, is released and sells almost 300,000 copies in first week.

Nov. 24: Britney is caught driving through stop signs in this video.

Dec. 7: Britney is caught on camera taking a lighter without paying in this clip.

Dec. 8: Britney is caught on camera running more stop signs aqui.

Dec. 11: Britney’s pet store of choice, Pets of Bel Air, is accused of buying puppies from puppy mills.

Dec. 12: Britney fails to show up at her deposition in her custody case.

Dec. 18: Britney is ordered to appear for deposition in her custody case in January.  Meanwhile, a Florida court clerk enters default against Britney for failing to respond to the lawsuit for alleged unpaid commissions filed by Johnny Wright in October.

Popsquire hereby offers his services to teach at any accredited law school a class entitled, “Britney and the Law 101.”  Maybe there will be an advanced class next year.  Stay tuned!  Until then, check out Britney’s video for the seemingly self aware song, Piece of Me, now.

This was indeed the Year of Britney, though I have to say her unpublicised album was quite good compared to the crap she used to do. Goes to show that you don’t need to be sober at work when you have millions of dollars of engineering at your disposal.

What happened when her lawyer argued that she was a pop star and therefore could not be expected to wake up early? Did she actually get away with that in court?
