Britney Defies Deposition
We all know that Britney Spears failed to appear for her deposition last week. Is this a big deal in the legal world? Not really. Failure to appear at a deposition is fairly common in litigation, either for legitimate reasons or unsavory strategic gamesmanship. The deposition can be re-scheduled.
The only real consequence to Britney is that K-Fed’s lawyers are mad (which she might enjoy), and a judge may make her pay for the costs of the deposition (usually less than $2,000). In reality, though, it probably would cost K-Fed’s attorneys more time and money to file a motion for sanctions than they would get in return.
However, if she fails to show up for scheduled depositions multiple times, a judge may issue an order for her to appear. At that time, she better not black out!
