  • Brangelina vs. ET

The plot thickens in the Entertainment Tonight/Brangelina faux birth scandal.

Because you are a faithful Popsquire reader, you know that an alleged impostor told ET that Angelina Jolie had given birth last week. Now, according to CNN, sources from Angelina’s camp claim that ET aired the story despite being repeatedly told beforehand that the report was based on information from someone impersonating Angelina’s assistant.

ET released a statement yesterday, claiming that it first learned of a possible impostor from a letter from Angelina’s attorneys on Monday (three days after the broadcast). The statement also indicates that the show is “actively investigating the matter” and “reaching out to law enforcement agencies.”

Meanwhile, get this…the New York Times now reports that ET “has reason to believe that the e-mail address from which it received the information on Friday is a legitimate address for Ms. Jolie’s assistant.

You can bet lawyers are scrambling on all sides: (1) ET’s lawyers likely are scrambling to catch (and sue) the impostor, if any; (b) Angelina’s lawyers likely are continuing to press ET to straighten out the mess; and (c) lawyers for various magazines are rushing to finish contracts for exclusive rights to publish pics of the babies when they are born, reportedly at a price of more than $10 million.

Question: Why doesn’t Angelina just show the baby bump to put an end to all the speculation?!?

Popsquire loves a good legal drama! In honor of this twisted plot, enjoy this Killers hit, “Somebody Told Me.”
