  • The People vs. Follieri

Just like Popsquire predicted, Raffaello Follieri’s recent request for a three-year sentence was denied.  Instead, a federal court in New York sentenced Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend today to 4.5 years in prison for cheating investors in his Vatican-based financial scheme.

As a reminder, Raffaello pleaded guilty last month to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, eight counts of wire fraud and five counts of money laundering by claiming he had Vatican connections that allowed him to buy Catholic Church property at a discount.  He also agreed to forfeit $2.4 million.
