Review: “I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!”
I’m a blogger…get me out of here! Wait. Don’t. NBC’s new show, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, is too tragic and addictive not to watch.
The format is hardly unique. The contestants enter seclusion, divide into teams, compete for food, and fight to be the last person standing. Anyone who has seen Survivor or Big Brother knows exactly how this show works. Of course, anyone who has seen any reality show knows that the key is in casting, and that’s where this show shines.
Clearly working with irony, NBC cast “celebrities” like Rod Blagojevich’s wife, Frangela (a comedy duo whom only Best Week Ever fans know and love), and Sanjaya Malakar. These people, sadly, are no match for reality tv veterans, Spencer and Heidi.
Within minutes, Speidi steal the show by threatening to quit, making comparisons to Al Queda, starting a physical confrontation, and insulting every member of the cast by proclaiming that they are “devaluing our fame.”
And, that’s just the beginning. The show airs four nights this week, which is too much for any sane person. However, so long as there is a villain — whether it’s Speidi or maybe Janice Dickinson will step up to the plate — the show might work. Without a villain, however, it’s just a bunch of people stuck in an jungle us asking us to love them.
If we do, then the show fails.
I still don’t understand the public’s fascination with rich people behaving badly. Can’t we think of something more creative to put on television?
I can’t disagree more, the show is so bad, I couldn’t wait for it to be over. Nor did I watch the 2nd part tonight.
It’s a bad combo of survivor and big brother, the latter I never watched either.
These so called celebrities need a life, as well as anyone woho continues to watch this trash NBC scraped up.
