The Popsquire Beat provides this week’s most entertaining collisions between pop culture and law. Enjoy!
1. Morgan Freeman stars in Driving Miss Allred.
Gloria Allred held a press conference this week to publicize a lawsuit she filed on behalf of plaintiff Demaris Meyer. Morgan allegedly is at fault for an August car crash that left the plaintiff unconscious, required her to spend four days in the hospital, and caused numerous physical complications. Gloria also alleges that her client was unable to take care of herself for four months, suffered mental/emotional injuries and has been unable to return to work. In short, Gloria is hoping this lawsuit is a Million Dollar Baby!

2. A Malibu woman says Rick Schroder is a thief.
Alicia Roberts claims that her ex-boyfriend, Brent Black, took tools worth $7,000 and that Rick was his co-conspirator. Rick counter-sued, claiming that she caused him to lose at least $5,000 in lost work, harassed him, and committed trespass on his property. Hmm…does a Silver Spoon qualify as a tool? Let’s hope so!

2. Audrina Patridge probably wishes she never left LC’s guest house.
Like a typical lawyer, Popsquire enjoys a good slip and fall…
But, the model apparently does not. Sarah Welch, who is a former contestant on The Bachelor, is suing for negligence arising from the events in this video. She claims to have suffered “great injuries to her body, shock and injuries to her nervous system.”
Maybe she should watch the video again. Laughter is often a good cure.
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony have filed a $5 million lawsuit against the makers of a baby carriage. The couple claim that Silver Cross Ltd used an unauthorized photo of them on its website to help sell a baby stroller. In short, J-Lo doesn’t want anyone to think she’s endorsing any stroller on the block!
For today’s most ironic and twisted collision between pop culture and law, Popsquire presents Edward Graziano.
He is the father of John Graziano, who remains in a vegetative state due to Nick Hogan’s reckless driving. Today, Edward was arrested for allegedly trying to hire a hit man to kill his estranged wife Debra…in a car accident. Seriously.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the arrest came after a two-and-a-half month investigation. Authorities allege that in an effort to kill his wife, Edward held multiple meetings and negotiations with a tipster and an undercover detective posing as a go-between to a hit man.
Debra’s attorney released this statement: “She is saddened by all of this. She can’t believe so much tragedy can strike one family. Her main purpose is concentrating on John getting better.”
Jennifer Hudson isn’t letting a pop culture / law collision hold her back.
The triple homicide of her mother, brother, and nephew turned her world upside down, but she is bouncing back. Having recently performed at the Superbowl, Jennifer now is scheduled to sing on The Oprah Winfrey Show this Friday. She also will kick off her first solo tour on April 2 in Philadelphia.
For today’s collision between pop culture and politics, Usher testified before the House Education and Labor Committee yesterday about the importance of youth volunteerism. The five-time Grammy winner wants Congress to pass the Serve America Act, which President Obama referenced Tuesday night in his Congressional Address.

For this morning’s absurd collision between pop culture and and law, DMX, whose 2008 interstate jail tour landed him in an Arizona jail, is now releasing press statements from behind bars. See below…
Following testimony by Jamie Spears and Brit’s former security guard, Itmar Gelbman, a Los Angeles judge decided to extend temporary restraining orders against Sam Lutfi, Adnan Ghalib. Pursuant to the orders, both men are prohibited from contacting or going near Britney.

Driving Miss Allred may be over, but Morgan Freeman’s troubles have just begun.
During today’s press conference about the lawsuit she filed today on behalf of Demaris Meyer, Gloria detailed the alleged events of the August car crash involving Demaris and Morgan, showed pictures of the car wreckage, and let her client speak about the damage the crash caused professionally and emotionally.
Here are the details:
1. Despite much speculation to the contrary, Demaris says she was not having an affair with Morgan. Rather, he simply offered to let her stay at his home that night and was kind enough to drive her there, because he was more familiar with the roads. She refused to comment on whether Morgan had been drinking.
Legal translation: You gotta save something for deposition and for settlement leverage.
2. Gloria says there were no other cars on the road. Nonetheless, the car crashed, flipped three times, and landed in a ditch.
Legal translation: Morgan should pay up, because it’s his fault.
Britney’s ex, Adnan Ghalib, just pleaded not gulty to three felony charges and posted $110,000 in bail after allegedly hitting a process server with his car earlier this month.
TMZ first reported the story, but Popsquire knows you are wondering how Adnan can afford the bail. Well, he doesn’t actually have to pay the entire $110,000. Instead, a bail bond agent generally pays it and asks for 10-15% of the full bail amount as security to obtain a defendant’s release.
The bail agent would, in effect, lend Adnan money for a fee. If Adnan skips bail, however, the bail agent is responsible for the entire bail amount. Oh, wouldn’t it be fun if Adnan skipped town? Britney already has a song waiting…If You Seek Adnan!
According to TMZ, Gloria Allred is hosting a press conference at noon PST to announce that her client, Demaris Meyer, is suing Morgan Freeman because she was the passenger in during his August car crash.
Gloria says her client will “tell the truth about whether or not she was the ‘other woman’ in an intimate relationship with then-married actor Morgan Freeman when she was seriously injured as he was driving her car late at night.” And, sadly, she also will display “never before seen graphic and disturbing photos of the car in which the actor and the woman were riding will be displayed.”
Chris Brown doesn’t want to ruin his career Forever, so he reportedly began anger management classes on Monday.
If true, this definitely is a preemptive maneuver in advance of his March 5 court date. Brown can tell the judge that he already is taking steps to reform, which likely will give the court more reason to be lenient when it comes to sentencing or approving a plea bargain. Of course, it also may provide an admission of guilt; if he didn’t hit Rihanna, then why would he need anger management?
