Perfect Bride vs. Momma’s Boys
Call him Ryan Suecrest!
A Turkish reality tv producer is suing Ryan Seacrest to stop tonight’s premiere of “Momma’s Boys.” In court papers filed yesterday in Manhattan federal court, plaintiff Luftu Murat Uckardesler claims that NBC Universal and Ryan Seacreast Productions “willfully appropriated” the format of “Momma’s Boys” from his Turkish show, “Perfect Bride.”
Unfortunately for Luftu, this may not be the perfect lawsuit. The misappropriation of a reality show idea/concept can be very difficult to prove. Any tv viewer knows that the format for these shows is extremely generic. Therefore, creators of reality-competition shows often may not be protected by copyright laws.
