TV Touched By The Law: Gossip Girl

Did you see Monday’s episode of Gossip Girl?  It’s riddled with collisions between pop culture and law!  If you are not watching, shame on you, but here’s what you need to know

    1. Serena’s long lost friend Georgina, played by Michelle Trachtenberg, returns to town and causes S to skip out on SAT study sessions with Dan to go out drinking.
    2. After S wises up and tells G that she will be drinking only diet coke, G spikes S’s drink with drugs.
    3. S wakes up the next morning, late for the SAT and without any memory of the prior night’s events.
    4. S calls Chuck to ask him to keep the test center doors open for her.
    5. C goes one step further, hiring someone to take the SAT for S.
    6. S does not know about C’s move at first, but she soon figures it out with D’s help.

    Popsquire’s perspective…

Everyone knows drugs are illegal, but hiring someone to take the SAT (shockingly) may not result in criminal punishment.  The person signing in for the test clearly is committing forgery, but who is going to press charges?  Not the person who hired the test taker!

This doesn’t mean cheating is ethical or without consequences.  Any SAT cheater can expect to kiss college goodbye when s/he is caught.  And, of course,  you will be haunted by nightmares of your evil deed for the rest of your life!
