  • Dr. Phil Speaks Again

    Dear Dr. Phil,

    Thank you for appearing on the Today Show this morning to discuss Britney Spears, after previously admitting that talking to the press about her was not the best decision. Popsquire enjoys your sense of candor and accountability as well as your lack of interest in self promotion, which you described in today’s national television appearance.

    Popsquire also appreciates that you clearly have been reading previous Popsquire posts. As a result, you have presented a four part defense to the California Board of Psychology complaint filed against you as well as concerns about whether you engaged in unethical solicitation of clients as follows:

    1. You contend that you did not reach out to the Spears family, rather they always contacted you;
    2. You repeat that your show and website disclaimers make it clear that you do not provide therapy;
    3. You explain that you no longer possess a license to practice psychology, thereby alluding to the argument that, in any event, you are not bound by any patient-doctor confidentiality obligations; and
    4. You invoke Oprah, mentioning that she will be appearing on your 1000th episode, again evidencing your utter lack of interest in self promotion.

    Popsquire is impressed by this multi-part defense. I, nonetheless, remain concerned about your involvement in the Britney situation and will continue to follow any legal issues arising out of the Britney hospital visit. Popsquire has been around long enough to know that this story isn’t over and, most importantly, there always are at least two sides to a story.

    Please keep in touch and, until next time, enjoy this classic by the Black Eyes Peas.

    Sincerely,

    Popsquire
