Popsquire’s pop quiz: When someone is arrested, do they have to shell out the entire bail amount to get out of jail?

Nope.  Generally, a bail bond agent will ask for 10-15% of the full bail amount as security to obtain a defendant’s release.  The bail agent is, in effect, lending the defendant money for a fee.  If the defendant skips bail, however, the bail agent is responsible for the entire bail amount.
