Celeb Moms Have Rights, Too!
Popsquire is happy to report that four celebs gave birth today — Christina Aguilera, Nicole Richie, Courtney Thorne Smith, and David Alan Grier’s wife. Congrats to all!
Not that any of these people likely have to worry about the cost of insurance or hospital stays, but Popsquire still likes to remind people of their rights and, of course, the constant collision between pop culture and law…
The Newborns’ and Mothers’ Health Protection Act of 1996 (NMHPA) was enacted on September 26, 1996 to provide protections for mothers and their newborns with regard to hospital lengths of stay following childbirth.
NMHPA generally requires certain group health plans to provide a new mother with no less than 48 hours of hospital stay following a vaginal delivery or no less than 96 hours following a delivery by cesarean section.
